Terms of Use

These terms define the local-first V1 license, supported reading workflow, and the responsibilities that remain with you and your TTS provider.

Eligibility and V1 license

ReadAlong PDF is a local-first web application operated by Jianbo Ying in Shanghai, China. You must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age to enter this agreement where you live, to create an account or buy a license.

The V1 license is for one person and may be active on up to three browser profiles. It unlocks the listed V1 reading features for supported English text-layer PDFs in supported desktop Chrome and Edge versions. It does not include OCR, mobile support, cloud PDF storage, cross-device document sync, a TTS subscription, or every PDF or endpoint. Your files and progress stay in each browser and may be lost if browser storage is cleared.

Your TTS provider

You provide and configure your own compatible TTS endpoint. You authorize your browser to send the chosen sentence and credentials directly to that provider. You are responsible for that provider’s charges, permissions, reliability, and terms. Do not use an endpoint or PDF you are not authorized to use.

Price and updates

The price is shown before checkout. The V1 price is USD $29 as a one-time charge with no automatic renewal; taxes may be added based on location. The merchant of record and its Buyer Terms are identified before you pay. A purchase includes 12 months of feature updates. After that period, you retain the purchased V1 capabilities while the service continues to operate; separately priced future major features are not included. We do not promise lifetime operation or permanent browser compatibility.

Acceptable use

You may not use the service to violate copyright, bypass DRM, attack networks, share accounts, probe other users, introduce malware, or interfere with access controls. We may suspend access needed to protect users, investigate fraud, comply with law, or address a material breach. We will not use suspension to avoid an otherwise valid refund.

Service boundary

The service is provided with reasonable care but complex PDFs, browser storage, networks, and third-party TTS services can fail. It is not a certified assistive technology, medical device, legal or educational advice service, or a substitute for a screen reader. To the extent permitted by law, liability for ordinary claims is limited to the amount you paid for the license; this does not exclude rights or liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Product and intellectual-property notice

ReadAlong PDF does not generate advice, summarize a document, verify its accuracy, or obtain rights to it. Text-to-speech audio is generated by the endpoint you choose. You must have lawful access to each PDF and permission to process it through that endpoint. The service does not remove DRM, host public files, or grant rights to reproduce or distribute documents or audio. Highlighting and reading order can be wrong on complex layouts; check the original page for authoritative content. The service is not certified for medical, safety-critical, examination accommodation, or professional reliance.
